Mercury in Gandanta ~ From instinct to higher thinking

Mercury, planet of thought and commerce, is in the Gandanta zone between fire and water signs and nakshatras from November 30^th to December 5^th 2022.

This junction area translates to a ‘knot-end’ and stretches from the final pada of Jyeshta through the first of Mula, bringing an uncertain atmosphere and karmic patterning. Communication and contractual affairs go unexpectedly, and a matter you thought settled may be thrown back up in the air or be taken out of your hands.

A missed detail may also prove essential and compel you to examine a whole proposition again. Friends and family act strangely too, or else pull out of an agreement which you thought a sure thing. Mercury goes from all instinct and emotion in Jyeshta, to philosophical and otherworldly in Mula, and your thinking shifts from gut instinct to abstract and academic study.

This is a big jump, and the new mental atmosphere takes time to adjust to and make decisions in. This whole transition period has an intuitive quality, but in quite different ways, where one half takes care of basic details and the other sees the bigger picture.

This transition also goes from fixed Scorpio to mutable Sagittarius, so it’s possible to extricate yourself if you have first dug your heels in and given a firm commitment. Of all Gandata zones, this sign combination is often the most volatile and unstable, which makes it hard to commit and see the future.

Up to December 2^nd you are very conscious of other people’s feelings and try to keep all sides in a situation happy. By the end of this transit, however, you feel less constrained, freer to speak your mind and simply let others follow as they wish.
