“Astrology is a science and has an almanac, or calendar, which has five aspects or limbs to it. There are nine planets and twelve constellations, which are made up of 27 stars, or nakshatras. Every nine degrees in a constellation makes one star, and each star has four subdivisions, or padas; the first, second, third and fourth.
Astrology and 108
Two and a half stars make one constellation, and when a planet moves through these constellations it brings so many changes – in fact the nine planets moving through twelve constellations brings about 108 changes.
The ratio between the diameter of Earth and the diameter of the Sun is 108, and the ratio between the Moon and Earth is again 108. Why is 108 such an important number? Because that is the difference between the ratio of the diameter of the Earth and the Moon. If it was 107 or 109 then life couldn’t exist on this planet. Only with 108, life is possible. That’s why thousands of years ago, ancient people gave so much importance to the number 108.
Tithi’s and Vara’s
The Moon’s cycle from the New Moon to the Full Moon is divided into fifteen parts, fifteen days, and each day is called one tithi. The Half Moon happens on the eighth day, and seven days before it is the New Moon. So there are fourteen days between New Moon and Full Moon. The Moon’s tithi varies – sometimes the New Moon starts in the middle of the afternoon, or late evening, or in the morning.
Vara means the week day; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Nakshatra means star, or when the Moon is in a particular star. The Moon takes 27 days to go around all the stars, and that is called one month.
The Vedic Month
If you follow the Moon, every New Moon a new month begins and it ends on the next New Moon. So 27 and a half days is actually the real month, then every four years there is an extra month. When you calculate with the Sun you have one extra day in a leap year, but when you calculate with the Moon you get one ‘leap month’ every four years.
Thousands of years ago the ancient seers calculated all of this, which today is referred to as the Panchang. They calculated everything such as when an Eclipse happens or when the Moon goes to a different star based on the exact time, the hour, minute and second.
Yoga means the union of a day with a star, so on a particular day, like Monday, a particular star creates a Yoga which has a specific impact. There are 27 such Yogas and the effect they have on the mind is also given. For example, if a star happens to fall on a Tuesday it has a specific impact, but if the same star falls on Wednesday it has a different impact on the mind. And there is a whole table for it, with the days, the stars and the effect.
The first star on Sunday may be blissful, but another star on another day means anything you start is likely to be a failure. The ancient people knew this – they knew whether an accident was going to happen and then they would avoid those days and times.
Astrology - Your Cosmic Weather Map
There is a whole science behind this, that events are controlled by vibrations in the atmosphere and the vibrations can be controlled by you. Once you know this it is like weather prediction – if you know it is going to snow then you prepare yourself and take your jacket and hat, and if the weather report predicts rain then you know when to bring an umbrella.“
The align27 app does your cosmic weather prediction for you, so you can choose the right times for your activities, based on your own birth chart and current planetary placements.
